Cooking From Scratch

I have learned a lot about myself and my family as I have began taking the steps towards healthy eating.

I have learned that I AM capable of taking good care of my family and making smart nutrition decisions. I am capable of taking basic ingredients and making something extraordinary from them.

I have also learned that cooking from scratch also makes a lot of good memories for my family. I love spending time with my son as he is stirring ingredients and chatting about his life and the things he enjoys. We have had such good conversations and laughs in that kitchen.

So why don't you try it? Start basic and see how it grows. If I can do it, anyone can! For more frugal ideas click here.

We've been doing the same thing (moving toward fresher, healthier eating) and the kids actually prefer and love to help pitch in. You're right, they are making the memories that will stick with them.

In fact, this week, I learned how to can. I made apple butter and apple sauce. The boys were so proud they helped pick all the apples at the orchard. They were gone with their father on Thursday, but when they came home to find the jars of applesauce lined up on the counter, my youngest son's eyes lit up as he exclaimed over having our "own" applesauce.

We are going to actually do this as a homeschool project this year and really get into it. They are learning good habits now and we are making some marvelous memories that will bless us all.
